About Our League
Welcome to the official site for the Over 40 league at Bellevue. We hope to see you at our next game.
FUTBOL IS LIFE !!
This league was initially set up to be played in a 7v7 configuration. Ken was able to organize several teams with 10 players each however, there were always challenges getting everybody to show up for the games. There were enough players to have a 12v12 game, and this became the standard and has continued to be the standard until this day. We have kept a consistent roster of about 70 to 80 registered players, but to this day we still only have enough players to play a 12v12 game, with a few substitutes every week.
Another challenge that was faced early on was finding fields to play on in Bellevue, this is why the goal is to keep the league small. Our league has been a good partner with HYSA and now TSC. Over the years the Men’s league has helped both youth leagues by providing volunteers during tournaments, money for repairing areas of the facility, money and labor to fix and maintain the field across the river, meeting with HVUD and Metro Water to get permits for sewer and water permits, designs for bathrooms and other projects.
Through the years this league has brought many people together to become long-time friends. We heard several times from players that when they were new to Nashville they heard about this league and made close friends because of the league. Our league believes in getting together after games, Christmas parties, etc. Players that have moved out of town call when they come back to visit and are happy to hear we are still playing.
An interesting fact is that we have made funny shirts, where a player in Norway has become a fan of them and is always interested in seeing our new designs.
Around 1998 Ken tried to start a Women’s rec league like the Men’s league, but we couldn’t get women to commit. At one point Ken’s wife as well as Ken, performed lessons for new players, where they could bring their children to scrimmage with them after the lesson was over. The intention was to use this tactic to recruit new players for the Women’s league unfortunately that did not occur.
